Global and Local Change: Development to Achieve Sustainability In Communites of the 21st Century is the theme of the 35th Annual Third World Conference convening in Chicago in 2010.
The Annual Conference engages scholars, practitioners, professionals and students from various institutions and communities. The Conference is encouraging diverse perspectives and critical analysis in research and practice related to local and global sustainable economic, social, political, and environmental development. The Conference highlights interdisciplinary approaches in the human and physical sciences, the humanities, public policy, along with emerging areas of study.
The 35th Conference is particularly interested in an exchange of ideas focusing on the present and future economic, social and public policy issues confronting nations in the south and north. The major focus of the 2010 Conference is the need for viable research, workable solutions, and partnerships within societies and among nations for sustainable development programs.
Previous Conferences have provided opportunities for peer reviewed and editorial reviewed publications, programs and projects focusing on significant local and global sustainable development issues, and concerns related to social justice and humanitarian issues.
Documentation supports previous participants benefiting from the Conference in a variety of ways:
- Publishing their works
- Increasing their knowledge in various fields
- Networking in specialized areas
- Engaging in international projects working towards achieving sustainability
These conferences have connected beginning and experienced faculty, administrators, professionals, policymakers and students addressing contemporary issues facing the global south, north and the diasporas communities in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Oceania.
Electronic registration and submissions are required by the deadline of March 15, 2010 by 12 AM, midnight Central Daylight Time (CT)

The 35th Annual Conference encourages imaginative submissions leading to:
- Publication of original scholarly research
- Editorially reviewed papers or publications
Standards of empirical and argumentative rigor are expected of all tiers (one, two, and three)
Required format for all presenters: submit abstracts double-spaced, 11 or 12 point font using Microsoft Word
Individual presenters:
To be considered as a presenter, submit an
- Abstract should not exceed 500 words
- Abbreviated Curriculum Vitae (CV), not to exceed two typewritten pages
Panel presenters:
To propose a complete panel session, submit the following:
- Session proposal describing the panel topic(s) (not to exceed 500 words)
- Abstracts for each of the session panelists (not to exceed 500 words)
- Abbreviated CVs for the session leader and all participating panelists (each CV not to exceed two typewritten pages)
